AlterLinux is an ArchLinux-derived OS that has been developed by customizing archiso. Japan's first "ArchLinux-derived OS developed in Japan". Equipped with Xfce4, which is uniquely customized to the standard desktop environment, enables easy operation. It can be installed easily with the GUI installer. All settings such as network and disk can be done with GUI, making it the best OS for migration from Ubuntu and other sources. Since the repository is shared with ArchLinux, you can use the latest packages and use the rich information of ArchWiki as it is. Development is performed by FascodeNetwork (formerly SereneTeam), which also handles SereneLinux, and it is the best OS that developers with abundant experience and technology are particular about making it easy to use for all users.

Syslinux is a collection of boot loaders for Linux and other operating systems which operates on Linux ext2/ext3 filesystems, MS-DOS FAT filesystems, network servers using PXE firmware, or from CD-ROMs. Syslinux has an advanced extension API and contains two optional menu systems. It also includes MEMDISK, a tool for booting legacy operating systems from non-traditional media like PXE or CD-ROM.

Libxml2 is the XML C library developed for the Gnome project. The library code is portable (to Linux, Unix, Windows, embedded systems, etc.) and modular; most of the extensions can be compiled out. Libxml2 implements a number of existing standards related to markup languages, including the XML standard, Namespaces in XML, XML Base, Relax NG, RFC 2396, XPath, XPointer, HTML4, XInclude, SGML Catalogs, and XML Catalogs. In most cases, libxml tries to implement the specifications in a relatively strict way. To some extent, it provides support for the following specifications, but doesn't claim to implement them: DOM, FTP client, HTTP client, and SAX2. Support for W3C XML Schemas is in progress. It includes xmllint, a command line XML validator.

Barcode Writer in Pure Postscript implements the printing of many barcode formats entirely within PostScript, so that the process of converting the input string into the printed output is performed by the printer or print system. curl and libcurl is a tool for transferring files using URL syntax. It supports HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, FTPS, SCP, SFTP, TFTP, DICT, TELNET, LDAP, POP3, IMAP, SMTP, RTSP, RTMP, and FILE, as well as HTTP-post, HTTP-put, cookies, FTP upload, resumed transfers, passwords, port numbers, SSL certificates, Kerberos, and proxies. It is powered by libcurl, the client-side URL transfer library. There are bindings to libcurl for about 40 languages and environments.

LEAF is a secure, feature-rich, customizable embedded Linux network appliance for use in a variety of network topologies. Although it can be used in other ways, it's primarily used as a Internet gateway, router, firewall, and wireless access point.

Guacamole is an HTML5 Web application that provides access to desktop environments using remote desktop protocols such as VNC or RDP. A centralized server acts as a tunnel and proxy, allowing access to multiple desktops through a Web browser. No plugins are needed. The client requires nothing more than a Web browser supporting HTML5 and AJAX.

PuTTY is a free implementation of Telnet and SSH for Win32 and Unix platforms, along with an xterm terminal emulator.

The ncurses (new curses) library is a freeware emulation of System V Release 4.0 curses. It uses terminfo format, supports pads and color and multiple highlights and forms characters and function-key mapping, and has all the other SYSV-curses enhancements over BSD curses. The distribution includes the library and support utilities, including a terminfo compiler tic, a decompiler infocmp, clear, tput, tset, and a termcap conversion tool captoinfo. Full manual pages are provided for the library and tools.

Launch4j is a cross-platform tool for wrapping Java applications distributed as jars in Windows native executables. The executable can be configured to search for a certain JRE version or use a bundled one, and it's possible to set runtime options, like the initial/max heap size. The wrapper also provides better user experience through an application icon, a native pre-JRE splash screen, and a Java download page in case the appropriate JRE cannot be found. The increase in size of the application is small.

teTeX is the de facto standard TeX distribution for a wide range of Unix-type operating systems, and serves as a building block for others. It's easy to install and customize. teTeX is not maintained anymore; instead, TeX users should migrate to TeXlive.

Polipo is a lightweight caching Web proxy that was designed as a personal cache. It is able to cache incomplete objects and will complete them using range requests. It will use HTTP/1.1 pipelining if supported by the remote server.
