Pymprovisator is a program for jazz musicians. Jazz music is based on improvisation and this program is intended to help musicians to improvise. The user sets the song parameters and the program generates a MIDI file with an adequate accompaniment. It emulates the program Band in a Box from PG Music. You can think of it as the electronic version of the books/CD from Jamey Aebersold.

SoundFontCombi takes advantage of the ALSA
sequencer to emulate a synthesizer or a
master keyboard, routing MIDI events in eight
parts with six MIDI outputs and two Midi inputs. It can also add functions to your master MIDI keyboard.

ll-plugins is a small collection of LV2 plugins and a host that runs them. All plugins are installed in separate LV2 bundles (except the ones that are closely related, like the math-constant plugins or the mono and stereo versions of the peak meter). The GUIs, for the plugins that have GUIs, are installed in bundles of their own to make it easier for packagers to put them in separate binary packages to avoid Gtk dependencies for the plugins themselves. There are synths, event processors, simple audio and control manipulators and GUI-based plugins.

QMIDICurves is a simple JACK application that lets you change MIDI-keyboard velocity response. You can choose between pre-defined curves or create your own curves.

ABC is a format designed to notate music using
plain text. The ABC Music Project promotes the ABC
language by maintaining the ABC standard and a
software directory.

Desfonema Sequencer is a tracker-inspired MIDI sequencer. It uses a pattern oriented design, with n tracks by pattern. It offers a piano roll editor for tracks, and a tabbed track interface for patterns. It features convenient keyboard shortcuts, a virtual keyboard, step and live editing, MIDI input (ALSA), and a text-based file format that is easy to edit manually or merge and better suited for version systems like Subversion.

The Non Sequencer is a powerful real-time,
pattern-based MIDI sequencer for Linux. It fills
the void left by countless DAWs, piano-roll
editors, and other purely performance based
solutions. It is a compositional tool that
transforms MIDI music-making from a complex
nightmare into a pleasurable, efficient, and
streamlined process.

Audiality is a highly scalable and portable audio engine and
synthesizer. MIDI files are used in combination with scripting and
modular synthesis, to minimize file sizes and maximize flexibility.
Audiality can be used as a music and sound effects player in
multimedia productions, or as a realtime MIDI synthesizer.

YPlayer is a simple GUI player that plays Y sound
objects using the GTK+ toolKit and the YIFF sound
server.

xmms-timidity is a MIDI plugin for XMMS. It plays
MIDI files using libTiMidity.

Cumulus is a software synthesizer which implements the Asynchronous Grain
Synthesis. This synthesis allows you to create very original sounds to be used
in your music (mainly percussive and ambient background sounds). It features a
convenient QT-based GUI where each paramter can be controlled by an envelope,
the ability for all parameters to be controlled with hardware controllers
(MIDI-controllerbox), an interface to use a MIDI-keyboard (polyphony
adjustable, default 8 voices), internal 32-bit accuracy, an internal sampling
rate that can be any multiple of the external one, and full realtime capability
with parameter changes audible within around 50ms, depending on system latency.

GLASHCtl is a simple applet for controlling the
LASH Audio Session Handler. When you run it, it
will appear as a small LASH icon in your
"notification area" or "system tray" (if your
desktop manager is compatible with
freedesktop.org's "System tray" standard). This is
typically somewhere in the panel in KDE or GNOME.

a2jmidid is daemon for exposing legacy ALSA sequencer applications in the JACK MIDI system.

libtclsmf is a library for writing and (in the
near future) reading standard MIDI files from
within Tcl scripts. It was written for the first
stage of 'oveja electrica', an experimental music
composition and artificial intelligence project.

amidimap is a MIDI mapper for ALSA that allows filtering and alteration of MIDI events. For example, it can be used to turn GM MIDI streams into streams suitable for a non-GM sequencer, or to disable the drum track.
