The p2pd package can be used to build scalable content distribution networks (CDNs) for interactive video-on-demand (VoD) streaming. It can be used as a server, a cache, and a client, and used to construct both traditional CDNs and P2P-based CDNs that make use of client resources to stream video files. The system is network aware, attempts to make efficient use of the available resources, and adapts to server failures.
Realripper can record Real streams to disk in a user-friendly manner. The stream address can be directly entered or read from a .ram file, local or remote (HTTP).
pyscmpd is a music player daemon designed for use on Raspberry Pis. It implements a subset of the MPD protocol, but instead of serving local MP3 files, it connects to SoundCloud.com and serves the streams found there. The Resilient Streaming Protocol (RSP) is a one-way IP/UDP media streaming protocol that was developed to provide high reliability audio streaming between the mountainchill.com Internet radio station's rural studios and SHOUTcast servers. Although the protocol operates in a unidirectional fashion (without listener ack/resend packets), it does support optional listener reporting and packet quality tracking. A streaming server called rspServer is included. It accepts multiple RSP stream sources, providing both RSP and SHOUTcast compatible relaying and transcoding. The source code package also includes a command-line encoder and decoders.
