Ganglia is a scalable distributed monitoring system for high-performance computing systems such as clusters and grids. It is based on a hierarchical design targeted at federations of clusters. Ganglia is currently in use on over 500 clusters around the world and has scaled to handle clusters with 2000 nodes.

Briefly, FreeBSD is a UNIX operating system based on U.C. Berkeley's 4.4BSD-lite release for the i386 platform (and recently the alpha platform). It is also based indirectly on William Jolitz's port of U.C. Berkeley's Net/2 to the i386, known as 386BSD, though very little of the 386BSD code remains. Botan is a crypto library written in C++. It provides a variety of cryptographic algorithms, including common ones such as AES, MD5, SHA, HMAC, RSA, Diffie-Hellman, DSA, and ECDSA, as well as many others that are more obscure or specialized. It also offers SSL/TLS (client and server), X.509v3 certificates and CRLs, and PKCS #10 certificate requests. A message processing system that uses a filter/pipeline metaphor allows for many common cryptographic tasks to be completed with just a few lines of code. Assembly and SIMD optimizations for common CPUs offers speedups for critical algorithms like AES and SHA-1.

mod_ssl provides provides strong cryptography for the Apache 1.3 webserver via the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL v2/v3) and Transport Layer Security (TLS v1). m0n0wall is an all-in-one firewall software
package that is based on FreeBSD. It is geared
towards embedded PCs, but it also works on
standard PCs. It includes an easy-to-use Web
interface like commercial firewall boxes do. PHP
is used instead of shell scripts, and the entire
system configuration is stored in a single
XML-formatted file. There is support for VPN,
traffic shaping, captive portal, VLANs, and more.
Open HPI is an open source project created to provide an open implementation of the SA Forum's Hardware Platform Interface (HPI). It provides a universal interface for Platform Management, including hardware sensor monitoring and control.
gpsd is a daemon that listens to a GPS or Loran receiver and translates the positional data into a simplified format that can be more easily used by other programs, like chart plotters. The package comes with a sample client that plots the location of the currently visible GPS satellites (if available) and a speedometer. It can also use DGPS/ip.
BitchX is the premiere IRC (Internet Relay Chat)
client. It originally was a modified version of
the popular ircII client, and the features were
eventually merged into the EPIC IRC client. The
current development is aimed at merging the client
back to a current branch of EPIC and bringing
compatibility and stability back to the client,
while bringing the features that are BitchX into a
new client.
